bangkokpost.com — Somali pirate attacks have spun "out of control", becoming more violent, frequent and extending further from the attackers' bases, a maritime watchdog said Wednesday.
"What we have seen in these last few weeks is an abnormal increase in violence and ships being hijacked despite the increased security in the area," said Noel Choong, head of the International Maritime Bureau's piracy reporting centre.
"The situation is already out of control," he told AFP. "The United Nations (UN) and the international community must find ways to stop this menace." read more...

nationmultimedia.com — INN news agency yesterday insisted it had "sincerely and professionally" reported news to its audience after its report about small countries offering help to former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra were denied and questioned.
In a statement posted on its website, www.innnews.co.th, INN said it would stick to the standard of good ethics and would not be a tool for anybody.
INN issued the statement after the media questioned the reported offer to Thaksin which turned out to be a hoax.
While it accepted the scrutiny and would reconsider its reporting process, the INN explained how it got the news about the offers to Thaksin.
The INN earlier reported that several countries like the Bahamas and Bermuda had offered asylum and positions to Thaksin while living in exile. read more...

nationmultimedia.com — The Foreign Ministry will ask the Cabinet on Wednesday to revoke the three resolutions issued in May and June supporting Cambodia's proposal to have Preah Vihear temple listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site.
The move aims to clear the Cabinet's docket, since the resolutions allowing former foreign minister Noppadon Pattama to sign a joint communiqu้ supporting Cambodia were already nullified.
Also, Phnom Penh did not use the joint communiqu้ when applying for the listing.
The ministry hopes that the termination of the resolutions might encourage the Administrative Court to drop the case, especially since the subject no longer exists, an official said. read more...

bangkokpost.com — North Korea said Wednesday it would close its border with South Korea from next month in protest at what it called Seoul's confrontational stance, a move that could cripple a joint industrial estate.
The communist state announced that a measure "to strictly restrict and cut off all the overland passages" would take effect from December 1, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.
A total closure of the heavily fortified border would effectively shut down the Seoul-funded Kaesong industrial complex built just north of the frontier as a symbol of reconciliation. read more...

nationmultimedia.com — The People's Alliance for Democracy said Monday that it has fired two men who were arrested Sunday with assorted bombs and weapons in possession.
Chamlong Srimuang and Pipop Thongchai, co-leaders of the PAD, said Thanit Khanurai, 28, and Watana Kijpithaksin, 22, used to work as guards of the PAD but they were fired over ten days ago.
Chamlong said the chief of the PAD guards fired them after they were found to often use violence and carry guns. Chamlong said the two were warned several times to behave but they disobeyed so they were removed from duty. Chamlong said the PAD also had records of firing the two and could present the evidence to police.
The two were arrested while on a motorcycle on Ratchasima Road in Dusit district at 2.50pm. read more...

nationmultimedia.com — Once again, Thaksin Shinawatra has sent legal pundits and novices alike scrambling for law books in a collective frenzy. Has he ever done anything in his life that needn't be interpreted? I wonder. Let's get started on the issues of royal pardons and amnesty bills.
CAN HE GET THEM, AND WHAT ARE THEIR DIFFERENCES?
Thaksin was referring to the royal pardon in his long-distance speech to his supporters last Saturday. This has to do with the two-year jail sentence laid down by the Supreme Court in connection with the Ratchadaphisek land case.
But since it was highly unlikely he would receive a royal pardon, for reasons we will discuss later, the People Power Party has been spinning the issue into a campaign to draft an amnesty bill for the 111 Thai Rak Thai executives banned from politics as a result of the party-dissolution ruling. read more...

nationmultimedia.com — The court ruled that the post-coup National Legislative Assembly in 2007 had lacked a quorum for the final reading of the bill.
Hopes were high for the legislation as a deterrent for aspiring politicians because it sought to penalise office holders as well as their relatives linked to conflicts of interest.
However, many politicians were unhappy, saying the law would discourage capable and qualified people from entering politics.
The definition of kinship was so broad as to span 84 tiers of family members and in-laws. The law was dubbed a seven-generation punishment, drawing on the analogy of an ancient penalty of beheading a wrongdoer and all members of seven-related families.
According to precedent, the NLA needed a quorum at the precious time of voting on passing a bill and not just at the calling of the session to order.k ra..asana bby? heheheok ra cy... read more...

bangkokpost.com — Some provinces in the central region were hit by flooding Tuesday as water levels in the region's rivers have risen substantially.
The business zone of Ayutthaya's Sena district was flooded, with shops in Ban Pan market closed and commodities moved to higher ground, causing traffic congestion.
In the northeastern province of Chaiyaphum, a dike was damaged by a forest flood in Ban Khwao district as water came off the nearby mountains. An estimated 50 million cubic metres of fast-moving water carried rocks, trees and forest underbrush into low-lying areas and paddy fields, cutting a main road connecting Chaiyaphum and Nakhon Sawan.
In Sing Buri, Governor Wichai Praisa-ngob visited flooded areas along the Chao Phraya River in Inburi district. Sand embankments and pumps helped drain water out to prevent flooding in the municipality.
In Suphan Buri, residents along the Tha Chin read more...
