nationmultimedia.com — Public health officials immediately buried the dead birds, sent samples for laboratory testing and disinfected the entire village to prevent the bird flu from spreading.
Another 385 chickens belonging to 28 farmers in the Moo 2 were caught last night and would be culled this morning as a precautionary measure.
Livestock officials have called the 13 village headmen in the tambon to explain the situation to the residents and urge them to cull the tambon's chickens.
The Livestock Development Department will dispatch 40 officials this morning to Sukhothai, which has been declared a red zone, to organise a team with another 40 local officials to X-ray the 13 suspected areas in the province, spray disinfectants and set up checkpoints to stop poultry transport. read more...

bangkokpost.com — The grand old man of the Phetchaburi river died of heart failure yesterday at the age of 108. Yen Kaewmanee, better known as Grandpa Yen, was rushed to Phra Chomklao hospital after nurses found him unconscious with a weak pulse in his boat, which was anchored at Lamyai bridge pier in Muang district.
The nurses suspected something was wrong after he failed to answer their routine call ahead of their daily visit to check his health.
"The doctors did their best trying to resuscitate him for more than an hour. Unfortunately his body never responded," hospital deputy director Sathit Rattanasrithong said. Grandpa Yen's heart failure was due to an enlarged heart, Dr Sathit and Phetchaburi governor Sayumporn Limthai told a joint press conference. He will be buried today in a Muslim ceremony. read more...

post-gazette.com — A Thai court yesterday removed the prime minister for taking pay to host a TV cooking show, setting off wild celebrations by protesters occupying his office compound.
But rejoicing could be short-lived -- the ruling party vowed to put him back in power.
The Constitutional Court's ruling took Samak Sundaravej at least temporarily out of the cross-hairs of the People's Alliance for Democracy, a rightist movement that seized the Government House complex two weeks ago, seeking to force the prime minister's resignation. read more...

nationmultimedia.com —
Permeable breakwaters used to help prevent coastal erosion in Samut Prakan have been recently proved effective by a Japanese expert, as they can help increase the size of mudflats.
Dr Yoshiki Saito, from the World Bank, said inspection showed that the triangular piles set up in 2006 worked well at protecting coastal erosion and trapping sediment. The 250-metre Khun Samut Jeen 49A2 barrier was put up by a 15-member team from the Thailand Research Fund in the worst hit area of the Khun Samut Jeen village in Phra Samut Chedi district's Tambon Laem Fa Pa. read more...

examiner.com — Thailand's prime minister defended himself Monday against accusations he violated the constitution by hosting a televised cooking show while in office, potentially the most damaging of a line of troubles confronting him.
Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej, who denies that he violated the constitution by working for a private company, would be forced to resign if found guilty by the Constitutional Court.
The trial comes on top of a defamation suit and three corruption charges he faces, and as anti-government protesters continue their nearly two-week-old occupation of the grounds of his office complex, demanding his resignation. read more...
